The 9th Nacala Development Corridor Management Committee (NDCMC) meeting
which was hosted by Malawi from the 10th to 14 March 2025 discussed the implementation of the One Stop Borders Posts (OSBP) across all crossing points on the corridor to fast track the establishment of seamless movement of goods and people.
The meeting also discussed security for goods and people moving along the corridor.
The issue of safety of goods vehicles and operators of the vehicles singled out as a key factor in any bid to increase volume of goods and people using the corridor.
From security, the delegates also discussed the need to maintain the road and railway infrastructure to useable state to ease movement and reduce operational costs for transporters.
The meeting observed that railway connectivity between Malawi and Zambia should be restored so that Zambia can connect to the port of Nacala through Railway.
Speaking when he closed the meeting Secretary for Transport and Public Works Eng. David Mzandu called for a deliberate effort to implement the OSBP and Mwanza-Zoboe border and Dedza –Calomue where the state of the art infrastructure has already been built on the Malawi side.
Mzandu also applauded Mozambique for offering to host the Nacala Development Management Committee secretariat in Tete.
The secretariat shall take over the role of the NDCMC and shall be headed by Executive Director and supported by specialist staff.
The meeting attracted over 30 delegates from Malawi, 16 delegates from Zambia and 36 delegates from Mozambique.
The 9th NDCMC meeting was supported by the Southern Africa Trade Connectivity Project financed by World Bank.
