The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in conjunction with NACALA Logistics have successfully brought back railway connectivity to Mchinji district.
This follows the rehabilitating of a damaged railway bridge near Nsaru in Lilongwe.
The opening of the Mchinji route is another mile stone for the government coming soon after the re-opening of the Balaka to Lilongwe route earlier this year.
This milestone demonstrates the administration’s commitment to bring railway back to life across the country and extend to other areas.
The reopened railway route is expected to bring more economic benefits to the country as neighboring Zambia and other countries are expected to use the connection to access the port of Nacala in Mozambique.
