Government has secured financing for the rehabilitation of the Zomba-Matawale-Liwonde Road, with construction works set to begin soon following the identification of a contractor for the project.
Minister of Transport and Public Works, Hon. Jappie Mhango, announced this today after meeting the contractor and inspecting more than 50-kilometre stretch. He said the rehabilitation project, funded by the World Bank, is expected to be completed within 14 months.
Mhango described the road as being in a deplorable state, noting that its current condition has negatively affected transport services, business operations, and mobility for surrounding communities.
