Malawi Conducts Technical Site Visit for Proposed Dry Ports in Nacala and Beira

Principal Secretary for Administration in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Fergus Gondwe, is leading a Malawi delegation on a technical site visit to Mozambique to assess land earmarked for the establishment of Malawi dry ports in Nacala and Beira.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Malawi’s access to international markets and improve the efficiency of cargo movement through the Nacala and Beira Corridors.

Speaking during the mission, Gondwe said the proposed dry ports will be a strategic investment for Malawi’s trade and transport sector. “The establishment of dry ports will help improve cargo handling and storage, reduce transit times and logistics costs, and enhance Malawi’s connectivity to regional and international markets,” he said.

The delegation is also expected to engage Mozambican authorities on the technical, operational, and institutional arrangements required for the development and management of the facilities.

Among those accompanying the delegation are Malawi’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, Chief Executive Officers for National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA), and the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA), as well as officials from the Ministry of Lands.
